WE ARE NOT JUST BASHING ALL THINGS CHINESE. This is an actual SAFETY WARNING. We know exactly what we are talking about, we used to sell Chinese scooters. We have
been through all of the horrors of trying to keep these poorly made vehicles on the road. We've seen critical, life-threatening
failures occur over and over again. Even with an outstanding level of support and customer commitment we were still unable
to keep these bikes running reliably.
Things to watch out for:
"Our scooters come with a full year
guaruntee!" - It's easy for them to say that, they're not even in your home state. They don't play by any of your consumer
protection laws. Where are you going to take it for service? Who is their "authorized" repair facility? Many of
these places have told customers that WE would handle their warranty. That is simply NOT TRUE.
"100% Parts
Support" - Most of these companies will cannibalize old or returned scooters to provide their customers with spare parts.
If your exhaust fell apart in two weeks, do you think the EXACT same low quality part they're replacing it with will last
any longer? Bad parts are bad parts. They don't fix the problem.
"DOT and EPA Approved" - These
scooters are all being sold out of state. They don't have to meet any of the regulations in your state. Simply put, they can
"Say" anything they want. There is no way for the DOT or EPA to enforce this unless they are looking at a unit brought
to them by a customer and frankly most of their customers are too mad and lazy to follow up after they've been burned. We
routinely hear victims say "Well, it was only $1200...I don't want to throw good money after bad." It's exactly
that attitude they're counting on.
"ABS or Anti-Lock Brakes" - These are not actual ABS systems. They
are cheap-o add on bi-level pressure valves that do nothing but act as a pressure reduction. In other words,
when you apply the brakes HARD, a shuttle moves that restricts the size of the brake orifice by a predetermined amount. This
reduces the amount of energy you can transmit to the brake calipers. These systems are DANGEROUS and result in losing most
of your braking energy when you need it the most. In the worst case scenarios we've seen these systems get jammed up, completely
locking the front or rear wheel causing the scooter to lose control and pitching the rider to the road. Real ABS systems are
only found on VERY high end scooters and they are usually a $1000 option. "Alarm system and remote starter"
- This has become the unofficial "tattletale" that you're looking at a low quality scooter. These Chinese made Alarm/Remote
systems cost about $20 and they're only good at one thing...killing the battery in your scooter. Why would you want a remote
starter on a scooter anyway? There are a few good quality scooters who are offering alarm systems etc. as an aftermarket
accessory. If the scooter you're looking at has it already included, be careful.

A very well respected dealer in Denver, CO writes:
"My experience with the Tn'G line has been poor to say the very least. As a dealer I have never encountered such poor
quality products. Of course, I steer clear of Chinese scooters - Tn'G was the only Chinese brand I ever tried selling and
it bit me in the rear. I have many, many customer satisfaction problems several of which resulted in BBB complaints. The experience
cost me thousands of dollars as I replaced Tn'G models with better quality scooters in order to keep my chin held high. I
recently destroyed 8 Tn'G scooters because they were unsafe for street use."

http://2strokebuzz.com/index.php?p=2772 Even the Chinese Importers have started stealing from each other!
http://allnewsportscomplaints.com/Cash strapped customer sells her car to buy a brand new Chinese Scooter with a "Lifetime
Garuntee" only to have it die within the first 300 miles and is completely hung out to dry by the importer. Spends over
$500 on repairs and it's still not fixed. My
CF Moto 250cc (Honda Helix Clone) Scooter was purchased new, within 2 weeks the starter switch went bad, then part of
the exhaust system fell off, then parts of the same system burnt off. Of course we were blamed for this by the Scooter Company
(Orlando FL) even though all this stuff was factory installed and had nothing to do with us, just very poor workmanship.
The radiator hose connector broke into two pieces, the heat sensor for the water temp. went bad, the clutch locked
up and when we disassembled it to find out what went wrong this time, we found that there wasn't any grease in the drive pully
and the weight rollers were flat spotted, plus the roller bearing in the clutch was never greased and fell out in pieces,
not to mention the drive belt was worn out. ALL THIS IN LESS THAN 3000 MILES!!!! AVOID CHINESE SCOOTERS AT ALL COSTS!

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― A Sacramento man parked his gas-guzzling truck for a fuel sipping scooter to make
his local runs to the store and the doctor. And he was stunned when the state demanded he return the license plate and registration!
Randy Bearup thought he'd found the perfect wheels for his neighborhood trips to the grocery and the pharmacy.
But then the state informed him his little bike is not only illegal; it could be much worse for the air than his truck, and
part of a much bigger problem!
Randy found this Chinese-made Ricardo 150 at a dealer less than two-miles from his
home. He says for a retired guy on a fixed income, it's a dream! "It's rated 75-miles to the gallon,
so you can't go wrong with it." Randy bought his bike from the Ricardo motors warehouse in south Sacramento,
and he says he asked about air quality. "I asked him, is it meant for California standards? He said everything is
fine, everything. It's perfect for California."
The Ricardo Motors catalog & website say Randy's
bike is EPA approved, and this tag on the bike says so, too. It also says it's California approved... But that's not
true.
Randy Bearup called Ricardo Motors about the problem. He's left many messages. But he never heard back
from them.
We got a hold of one of the owners of Ricardo Motors. He wants to be called Tony. Tony says the state
is picking on him, and his business is essentially shut down right now.
Tony would not talk with us on camera.
Turns out Randy's scooter -- with its engine made in China -- might be a big time polluter. California air quality
officials say these little scooters -- that get up to 75 miles a gallon -- can spew out an enormous amount of pollution.
"Realistically, we can see an uncertified motorcycle or scooter, that can emit as much pollution as 100 SUV's
or pickup trucks, and that's not an exaggeration."
And state regulators say thousands of of these dirty
little engines -- which are made in China and found in everything from scooters to ATV's to chainsaws, to lawnmowers,
and even drink blenders -- are pouring into America illegally.
"The numbers of product coming in from
out of state are astronomical. And we just don't have the resources to check every product that comes over the border."
Dimitri Stanich says with thousands of Chinese engines pouring into America those mismatched numbers are
exactly the problem. On one of our visits to Ricardo Motorsports in the past month we found Tony, and several other guys loading
ATV's into a truck.
Tony told us he'd take care of Randy and other customers with the same problem, if
they're patient. But when we went back with Randy Bearup this month, Ricardo Motorsports was gone.
Randy is
not alone. The state says about 300-scooters came in the shipment with his. The air resources board is ramping up to try to
deal with what they say is a flood of illegal motors, but they're not there yet.
